How it works

Step 1

Detect your current state

We read the SpotlightUI feature flag to see what's active.

Step 2

Safe toggle with backup

Before writing or removing the plist, a timestamped backup is created.

Step 3

Restart to apply

We prompt you to restart so the change applies system‑wide.

FAQ

Does this modify system files?

It writes or removes a feature‑flag plist at /Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/SpotlightUI.plist, with a backup.

Will I always need to restart?

A full restart is the most reliable way for the change to take effect across the system.

Is it reversible?

Yes. You can switch back anytime; your previous setting is backed up with a timestamp.

What about the new Spotlight features?

Important caveat: Enabling Classic Launchpad will also revert the revamped macOS Spotlight to its older version. For a supercharged Spotlight experience, we recommend Raycast — a powerful launcher that enhances your productivity beyond what system Spotlight offers.
